Vincy Sailing Club excels at the SVG National Sailing Championships

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Sailing Association hosted its National Championships at Blue Lagoon Hotel and Marina on December 17.

Twenty young sailors from throughout the nation fought for the title of national champion in two boat classes, the Optimist and the Olympic ILCA 6.

Twenty races were held in Blue Lagoon and Callaqua Bay during a full day of beautiful sunshine and strong trade winds.

Tegan Deane and Kai Marks-Dasent engaged in a fierce competition for the Optimist fleet. In the final race, Kai crossed the finish line barely ahead of Tegan to win the championship. Lamont Gregg finished in third place, while Tegan was the first female.

In the Olympic ILCA6 class, there was intense competition between sailors training at different clubs. This was an excellent chance to put that training to the test. The championship was won by Jamark Osbourne, who crossed the finish line two seconds ahead of Royal Boatswain. Orion Ollivierre finished third, while Scarlett Hadley was the first female.

On and off the ocean, we would like to extend a particular thank you to the sailors’ families and friends who made the event possible.

SVG Sailing Association is dedicated to a community-based sailing program that teaches sailing skills. The primary objective is to have fun, but also to identify talent, whether it be to represent St. Vincent and the Grenadines in international contests or to obtain vocational certifications for careers in the industry.

The championship was sponsored by the National Lottery, the National Olympic Committee, and Trident-UK.

2^nd Royal Boatswain, Vincy Sailing Club, St Vincent

3^rd Orion Ollivierre, Bequia Veterans Sailing and Sports Culture Club

1st Female: Scarlett Hadley, Vincy Sailing Club

Optimist:

1^st Kai Marks-Dasent, Vincy Sailing Club

2^nd Tegan Deane, Vincy Sailing Club

3^rd Lamont Gregg, Junior Sailing Academy, Bequia
