Windward Islands Airways International (WINAIR) has fulfilled its promise to the Dutch government by paying the last payment on the US $4,500,000 loan received during the difficult period of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
According to the airline, this momentous milestone is a time to express gratitude to the Dutch government for its invaluable assistance.
Together with the SSRP from the government of St. Maarten, it was critical in sustaining the airline’s operations during the stormy period of the epidemic, allowing WINAIR to handle challenges effectively.
“We express our heartfelt gratitude to the Dutch and St. Maarten governments for their unwavering support during this difficult time,” said Hans van de Velde, CEO of WINAIR. “This pivotal assistance not only assisted WINAIR in overcoming the hurdles posed by the pandemic but also enabled us to cultivate a stronger and more resilient organisational framework.”
According to the airline, smart use of the financing permitted not just successful debt management but also greatly helped to WINAIR’s financial robustness. The airline is now a symbol of stability, poised for robust expansion and many opportunities in the region’s aviation scene.
The loan arrangement stipulated that a minimum of two flights to Saba and Statia be maintained. WINAIR is pleased to have not only fulfilled but also exceeded this requirement.
WINAIR has successfully operated up to four flights per day on chosen days of the week throughout the last year.
Looking ahead to 2024, the airline intends to maintain four daily flights for the bulk of the year, demonstrating its dedication to serving these critical routes and promoting regional connectivity.
The repayment of the Dutch government loan demonstrates WINAIR’s commitment to financial responsibility and sustainability. By paying this final amount, WINAIR is entirely debt-free, financially sound, and ready to embark on new ventures.
