18 year old Oswell John an unemployed male of Paul’s Avenue in Kingstown has been arrested and charged by the Criminal Investigation Department for the offense of burglary on the New Democratic Headquarters at Richmond Hill between Friday November 9th and Saturday November 10th, 2018.
John is accused of entering the building as a trespasser and deprived the institution of several items which includes two Hairoun crates, an assortment of wares, a quantity of paint, clothing, exercise books, a pig foot among other items amounting to $940.00 also damage to property of one horse and staple along with two pad locks and other items amounting to $390.00.
John was escorted to the Kingstown Magistrate Court on November 14th, before Senior Magistrate Rickie Burnett facing the charges to which he entered guilty pleas.
The Court heard that on the evening of November 9th the General Secretary of the NDP Tyrone James who is also a former commander of the local Coast Guard secured the building and went away.
During the early morning of the November 10th it is reported that James received a telephone call from Brian Alexander who lives in the vicinity of the NDP Headquarters stating that he saw the accused walking away from the building with several of the items and he video-taped it and sent a copy to James who forwarded a copy to the Criminal Investigation Department and made a report to them who mounted the investigation into the matter.
Having heard that the Police was in search of him via Face Book John is said to have approached the Parliamentary Representative of Central Kingstown Major Leacock and asked him to go with him to the Police Station.
John was remanded into custody until November 26th, 2018 for sentencing.
