Bermuda’s Ministry of National Security says it is working with relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances that forced a UK-bound aeroplane to divert to the island on Christmas Eve with almost a dozen injured persons on board.

The ministry acknowledged in a statement that emergency services transported the 11 people to the hospital and that nine had been released following treatment.

“Around 12.50 a.m., Maleth Aero Flight 1975, an Airbus A300-200 flying from Barbados to Manchester, encountered severe turbulence, forcing an emergency landing at LF Wade International Airport.”

“The aircraft made a safe landing on the island.” The plane carried 225 passengers and 13 crew members. “Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service emergency medical technicians greeted the aircraft to provide initial assessments of the passengers and pre-hospital care,” the ministry stated.

The aircraft will be grounded until a thorough inspection to confirm its integrity is finished, according to the ministry.
